The “Certificate Font” is more or less the typeface selected for certificate designing diploma, award, or any other official document. There are a few things to be considered while choosing a certificate font in a way that creates clarity and formality along with beauty in an overall outlook.
For one, legibility is the most essential thing. The font has to be readable for both small and large sizes, as well as distances, so that the recipient of the certificate could conjecture text on it without straining their eyes. Serif fonts tend to be used on certificates because these have been associated with formality and readability in print for some time.
The font’s aesthetic qualities shall, therefore, be those of the tone and purpose of the certificate. Elegant serif fonts similar to Times New Roman, Garamond, or Baskerville are the favorites because of their classic look and readability. These typefaces convey a feeling of tradition and authority, hence suitable for formal documents.

Also, some decision needs to be made about the spacing and elimination of text elements, for example, names, dates and awards. The font should be such that it must show a clear distinction from one set of information to the other, but at the same time, give a feel of connectedness and flow.
Finally, while designing certificates in mind, one must consider that different platforms and printing methods will back the font to be used; it should support digital as well as print media so it looks uniform in all respects when it is distributed or displayed.
